BeOS Software
What is Be?
Be was a company that made a revolutionary new operating system called theBeOS, which runs on PowerPC hardware. Formerly, Be also made a very cool
machine called the BeBox, with dual PPC603e's at 133MHz (or dual 603's
@ 66 MHz). Unfortunately, they don't make them any more. An Intel version of BeOS was released, but didn't seem to go anywhere. Be folded in 2001.
The BeOS is special in that it is a truly modern OS. Some people assert
that Be actually stands for "buzzword-enriched" - all the things you'd
expect plus more. For me, my favourite feature is that it has both a good
GUI and a good command line interface - it's rare to have a computer that
has both.

A BeBox in action. Only 2000 or so were ever made, but they are still
incredible machines.
You can find out more about Be at their Web
site.
Currently available software
BeSalat
BeSalat is an application for calculating prayer times for Muslims. It
is configurable to cope with a number of different schools and handles
different cities. It is based on original source by Waleed Muhanna. The
current project is a quick port, until I can get my act together. Unfortunately, this means shell-only right now.
It consists of:
- hdate & hcal for the Islamic calendars & dates
- praytime for calculating the five daily prayers for Muslims
- premind to remind you when it's time to pray.
The current version is 2.1. You can download it for PowerPC or Intel:
