In the entire time I have been on the Web (since 1996), I have only redesigned my Web site twice. Once was when I first designed my original Web site, and once in 1998. Since then, a LOT has happened in my life (PhD completed, got married, became an uncle, started a few organisations, etc etc etc).

In the meantime, so much of the web has developed. When the original web page was first developed, it predated frames and tables, PHP and mod_perl. The funny thing is that my web site hasn't changed much in 6 years.

I think it's time for a redesign.

I have left UNSW (after 16 years)

After 16 years at UNSW (4 years Undergraduate, 6 years graduate/associate lecturer, 6 years postdoctoral), I thought it might be time to try something different. I have joined an internet startup that seems to be doing OK (though tech companies seem to be having some difficulties at the moment). I really enjoyed my time at UNSW, and hope, possibly one day to return. E-mail to waleed@... still should work, so don't hesitate to ask me about anything related to my past research (though I do ask for your understanding if it takes me a while to reply). I plan on keeping this web site up for as long as I can.

 A lot of people seem to be interested in sign language data, and UCI have been kind enough to make available my sign language data (27 samples for each of 95 Auslan signs). This data is about ten years old now.
